Private tutoring is not a new concept, but one that my not be as widely used as it should be. In a public school setting there is a curriculum set up on a one size fits all scale. Unfortunately, in school as well as in life, people are not one size fits all. Private tutoring services are designed to help children learn in accordance with how they learn best.
The ultimate goal of using a private tutor would have to be better grades in school. The key to the service is what do they offer to help your child reach the goal of better grades in school. For one, you get to pick your tutor, unlike your teacher. Tutoring services are run by different educators with different personalities. Interview a few to find a match that will work well with your child and their distinct way of learning. Learning in a private setting is also a huge benefit. Some people, a lot of people, are easily distracted. Whether it’s the noise, number of people, or other outside factors in a classrooms setting, distraction can be a big problem in learning for some people. Tutoring can be done in a quiet one to one session where all of our focus and be on the task at hand.
Privacy. Believe it or not, some children are shy. They may have questions or concerns in the classroom but are afraid to raise there hand due to being mocked by other students. Private tutoring allows them to ask all of the questions they want, with out fear of other students reactions. When a student achieves success with a tutor it brings them confidence that they can carry with them into the classroom. Having confidence is a huge factor not only in school but in any area of life after that. After all isn’t that what school is for? Preparing kids to go out into the world with confidence to make decisions and succeed professionally in life.
Focusing on specific topics. Perhaps it’s only one or two classes or subjects that’s holding your child behind. Working with a private tutor allows them to focus on their weak points in school, where their teacher just may not have the extra time to continue to cover one subject.
One final major benefit to private tutoring is being able to work with in a child’s specific attention span. School is almost as long as a work day, and some kids halfway through are already daydreaming about after school activities. Being one to one with a private tutor allows them to help manage your child’s attention span, and educate to the best of their ability while the child is focused.
